How to Choose the Right Football Boots for Your Pitch

How to Choose the Right Football Boots for Your Pitch

Firm ground, artificial grass or indoor courts: the surface you play on decides the stud pattern you need. Here's how to pick boots that grip, last and feel right from the first touch.

The right boots can change your game. The wrong ones can slow you down, slip at the worst moment, or leave you nursing blisters for a week. Before you look at colours or brands, start with the surface you play on most. Firm ground (FG) boots have moulded studs and suit natural grass in normal conditions. They're the most popular choice for weekend league players and give a good balance of grip and comfort. Artificial grass (AG) boots use shorter, hollow studs that spread pressure across the foot. On 3G and 4G pitches they reduce the strain on knees and ankles that FG studs can cause. Indoor and turf shoes have flat rubber soles or small rubber nubs. Use them for five-a-side, futsal and hard training surfaces. Fit matters as much as studs. Leave about a thumb's width between your longest toe and the end of the boot, and try them on with the socks you'll actually play in. Our Thunder Strike Pro Cleats are built for firm ground, and the Blaze Training Shoe covers turf and indoor sessions.
