The 15-Minute Pre-Match Warm-Up Every Player Should Know

A good warm-up gets your heart rate up, wakes up your muscles and sharpens your first touch. This simple routine needs nothing more than a ball, a few cones and fifteen minutes.
Most injuries in amateur football happen in the first fifteen minutes of a match, when muscles are still cold. A short, structured warm-up is the easiest way to avoid them.
Minutes 1–4: light jogging, side steps and backwards running across half the pitch. Keep it easy; you're just raising your body temperature.
Minutes 5–9: dynamic stretches. Walking lunges, leg swings, hip openers and high knees. Skip long static stretches before a game; save them for afterwards.
Minutes 10–15: ball work and short sprints. Pass in pairs, then finish with three or four 15-metre sprints through a cone gate. An agility ladder is perfect for quick-feet drills here.
Do it before every match and most training sessions, and you'll start games sharper and finish them stronger.
